Born in Bari and now based in London, Giuseppe Grondona has built a career as a performer and university lecturer in the UK since 2005. Over two decades, he has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Tormento (Sottotono), the Maurizio Grondona Group, Bosco De Oliveira (Airto Moreira, Sade, Terry Callier, Hamish Stuart, Kate Bush), Femi Temowo (Wynton Marsalis, George Benson, Amy Winehouse), Simon Carter (Jamiroquai), Svetlana Vassileva (Moby), Annabel Williams (X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent), John Wheatcroft (Carl Palmer), Andrew McKinney (James Taylor Quartet), Dave Troke (Beverly Knight), Les Davidson (Pete Townsend, Tina Turner, Laura Mavula), Francesco Lo Castro (Patrizio Buanne), Danilo Riccardi (Renato Zero, Ornella Vanoni, Mia Martini)) and TM Stevens (James Brown).
His career spans international tours, studio recordings, live TV performances, and appearances at major festivals, including the Ealing Jazz Festival, the London Drum Show, UK Bass Day, Untold Festival, the Los Angeles Indie-Music/Film International Summit, and the Lucca Summer Festival.
After graduating from the N. Piccinni Conservatoire in Bari in 2001, he quickly moved into teaching, securing positions at some of the UK’s most prestigious popular music institutions. He began at Drumtech in 2005, moved to Tech Music School in 2009, and joined BIMM London in 2012, where he currently serves as Lead Lecturer for the BMus in Popular Music Performance.
Throughout his academic career, he has mentored and guided over a thousand students, many of whom have gone on to perform with major artists. Notable alumni include Simon Tellier (Pet Shop Boys, Jason Derulo), Fabio De Oliveira (George Clinton, Jacob Collier, George Ezra, Jordan Rakei, Soweto Kinch), Rufus Taylor (Queen, The Darkness), Jamie Murray (Robben Ford, Beat Replacement, Tim Lefebvre), Vicky O’Neon (Anastacia), Naomi Forbes (Paloma Faith), Matteo D’ignazi (Rose Villain) and Vincenzo Guerra (Ghemon).
He recently published the Amazon best-selling drum method The Essentials of Hip Hop drumming.
