Marc Baggiani is an outstanding drummer, percussionist and composer living in Amsterdam.
Born in Buenos Aires, at the age of 9 he won the “Young Talent” prize of the Lebon Music
School.
He worked with Argentinean Grammy winner Juana Molina.
He moved to Amsterdam in 2001, where gained a MA in Jazz at the Conservatorium.
The journeys he made during that period to remote areas back in South America to collect,
learn and record folk music made the greatest impact on him. It offered him a deeper
understanding of the Afro South-American héritage and his own roots.
He is a leading voice in Amsterdam’s flourishing improvisation scene, both as player and
organizer, combining Contemporary Improvised Music, Rock, Jazz and SouthAmerican
music.
He has performed with many greats of the international improvised music community such
as Ellery Eskelin, Suzan Veneman, Shahzad Ismaily, Michael Moore, Sylvie Courvoisier,
Ernst Reijsiger, Luc Ex, Ingrid Laubrock, Ab Baars, Marta Warelis, Ingebrigt Haker Flaten,
among a countless list of amazing artists.
He leads several groups of his own and collaborates on many projects, constantly playing
and touring internationally.
Established ensembles include The Ambush Party, Undercurrent,
Celano/Badenhorst/Baggiani, Jerboah and bAgg*fisH.
Marcos Baggiani continues to light the way for countless collaborations thanks to his ability
to shape shift with full integrity to seemingly any musical situation, persistently evolving as a
creative, powerful and versatile musician.
“Drummer Marcos B. is a fine mischief-maker whose surprising ideas often steer the music
into unexpected new directions” T. Sprangers – Volkskrant
“It was also impressive in the Bimhuis how light-footed and rich the often South American
rhythms sounded.
Baggiani kept playing wonderfully smoothly around the beat, giving all the space to the
interplay of Spaargaren and Veneman.” Gijsbert Kamer – Volkskrant
