Mas started playing drums at age 13, but for as long as he can remember, he has annoyed friends and family by drumming on tables, chairs, you name it. To this day, he still prefers hard hitting and emotion over technique and flashy licks. After his dad took him to one of his rock cover band s practices, the musical fire was ignited. The spark that ignited the fire? The drummer of the band, Richard Jeurissen. After a while, Richard left the band and Mas took his place. In the meantime, he took up drumming lessons for about 2 years. Since then, he has played in bands non-stop, 15 years and counting. First his dad’s band, mainly playing covers of Foo Fighters, Nirvana and Queens of the Stone Age. Throughout high school, he played drums and occasionally was the lead singer for Axis, which he founded with his friends. Later, he joined Roasted, playing covers ranging from blues to heavy metal. In 2017, after moving to Groningen for to study, Mas was asked to join Burning, a heavy metal band from Stadskanaal (Groningen) fronted by Hugo Koch, who had previously released their debut album. Since then, Burning have released 2018 EP “The P.I.D. Files”, 2020 single “Evil in Disguise”, 2022 album “Scourge of Humanity” and 2024 split EP “Back to Back”. Later releases feature more of Mas’s backing vocals and lyrical content, something Hugo and himself enjoy working on together. Burning has played live shows in England, Belgium and Germany, and shared the stage with Dennis Stratton, Diamond Head, O.D. Saxon and Picture, to name just a few.
