David Keith is an American drummer, singer, composer, and producer based in Nashville, Tennessee, best known for his long-term collaborations with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore in the Renaissance folk-rock band Blackmore’s Night and the hard rock revival of Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow. He joined Blackmore’s Night in 2012 as part of their rotating ensemble, contributing to three studio albums, including Dancer and the Moon (2013), All Our Yesterdays (2015), and Nature’s Light (2021), and transitioned to drumming for the Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow revival in 2015, where he helped recreate classic Deep Purple and Rainbow material with an emphasis on authenticity and rhythmic precision inspired by original drummer Cozy Powell during tours from 2016 to 2017.
In addition to his work with Blackmore, Keith performs with the rock band Nelson—formed by brothers Gunnar and Matthew Nelson—participating in national and international tours, including high-profile events like Sweden Rock Festival, and contributes to the Ricky Nelson Remembered tribute project. He has also toured and recorded with blues-rock artist Leilani Kilgore, showcasing his versatility across rock, folk, and blues genres. As a session musician, Keith has collaborated with producer Obie O’Brien and artists such as Phil X and Hugh McDonald of Bon Jovi, highlighting his adaptability in both live and studio settings.
Keith’s career emphasizes flexibility and support for bandleaders’ visions, often prioritizing the original feel of the music over personal flair, as evidenced by his approach to Rainbow’s repertoire during their 2016 European tour and subsequent performances. His endorsements from drum companies like Dream Cymbals and Vater Drumsticks underscore his status as a touring and recording professional in the rock music scene. (Source: Grokipedia)
