Gijs is a dynamic and versatile drummer, whose playing style is energetic, playful and dynamic. He combines technical mastery with a good dose of spontaneity and creativity. Gijs is known for his hybrid drumming, where he interweaves drums and electronic sounds with innovative effects. His approach brings a fresh, groundbreaking energy to his music, both in the post-punk band Thames and in the cinematic folk project Fabienne Julie. By using different sounds and rhythms he creates unique textures that take the music to new heights.
In addition to his musical career, Gijs has a passion for teaching the next generation of drummers. He teaches at the DSOPM, where he has helped several students get accepted at various conservatories. Whether it is on stage or in the classroom, Gijs is determined to push the boundaries of drumming and encourage others to do the same.
